With Christmas nipping at our fur-lined heels, shopping chatter building and the parties piling up and onto our waistlines, London has a host of cinemas across the city that offer some reflective respite from the festive frenzy and tumbling temperatures outside. Throughout December a number of them will be screening some classic and some newer Christmassy films for you to laugh, cry or sigh at.
Here are some of our favourites that are still screening…
The illustrious British Film Institute on Southbank will be welcoming the quintessential – some say best ever – Christmas film It’s a Wonderful Life back to the big screen on the 23rd and 28th of December.
Belvedere Road, London SE1 8XT
Cinema doesn’t get much classier than when sipping on a rosemary vodka martini and taking in a movie at the grandiose Royal Academy. Hosting boutique cinema chain Everyman, the 100-seat screening room will be showing its selection until the end of December as well as serving dangerously good wintry cocktails. The films are a balanced medley of suitable for family-viewing classics such as Singin’ in the Rain and Casablanca, and of course It’s a Wonderful Life.
Burlington House, Piccadilly W1JOBD
Until Dec 29th 2015
If you’re so crazy for Christmas you’ll voluntarily pay to spend the night in a room full of strangers in their nighties munching on mince pies and revelling in festive films, the all-night movie marathon of Christmas Films at Prince Charles Cinema is the one for you. From Scrooged to the Gremlins, by way of Home Alone and finishing with ‘The Muppet Christmas Carol, it’s a seven-film swan song to the seasonal screenings of Christmases past.
